Water

University Park’s watering rules, and why turf changes the math

University Park’s drinking water comes from the Dallas County/Park Cities Municipal Utility District and originates in Lake Grapevine. University Park limits automatic sprinkler watering to twice a week, year-round, on days set by street address: addresses ending in an even number on Sundays and Thursdays, odd numbers on Saturdays and Wednesdays. From April 1 to October 31, outdoor watering systems may not run between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sprinklers may also run while a system is being repaired or tested, and to water newly planted landscapes within 30 days of installation. Residents can water at any time, on any day, with a hand-held hose, a drip irrigation device, a soaker hose or a watering can.

Checked October 2026. Rules change with drought stages; the University Park Watering Restrictions page is the authority.

Zero water

With strict local ordinances and tiered water rates, artificial turf offers a zero-water solution. A typical 1,800-square-foot lawn can save approximately 99,000 gallons of water annually, potentially reducing water bills by 70%.

Built for the Texas sun

We exclusively install heavyweight (73–111 oz total weight) UV-stabilized turf designed to withstand the harsh Texas sun without fading or melting. Does turf get too hot in Texas?

City code

University Park and artificial turf

University Park is not Highland Park. In its Code of Ordinances as published in October 2026, the mentions of artificial turf are site-specific approvals for school fields, playgrounds and a church; we found no citywide rule for turf on homes. Two general rules still touch a turf project.

Lot coverage

Impermeable coverage limits

University Park caps how much of a lot can be impermeable surface; in single-family districts, at most 50% of the street-yard zone. Semi-permeable materials are not counted. The code does not say how artificial turf is classified, so ask the city’s Community Development department before a front-yard install.

Irrigation

Sprinkler changes need a permit

Anyone installing, altering or replacing an irrigation system in the city must get a permit for each premises, and the application is signed by a registered licensee. If a turf project changes the sprinkler system, this applies.

Checked October 2026. Each card links to the page or code section it comes from; those are the authority if anything changes.

In University Park

What we install in University Park

Every install starts the same way: excavation 3-4 inches deep, Class II road base with decomposed granite, drainage, a commercial-grade weed barrier, then the turf cut to fit and finished with infill and power-brushing. The full six-step process is on our services page, and what sits under the turf is explained layer by layer in our base guide.

Pet turf

K9 Guard Ultra for dogs

703.47 in/hr drainage, Terashield anti-bacterial technology and a three-layer ZeoFill and Envirofill infill, built for yards that dogs use every day.

Lawns

Front and back lawns

Three lawn lines, from the everyday Signature 50 to the heavyweight Estate 84 and The Reserve, each with a published face weight, pile height and spec sheet.

Putting greens

Backyard putting greens

Tour Master in texturized polyethylene at a 0.63 in pile, or Tour Master Pro in 100% nylon at 0.51 in, with a non-directional blade for a smooth, consistent roll.

Play areas

Playgrounds and play areas

High face-weight turf with shock-absorbing underlays and safety infills for impact protection.

After the install, our maintenance and repair work covers deep cleaning, power brooming, re-infilling, seam repairs and weed management.

No. Highland Park has an ordinance written for artificial turf, Section 3.01.002, which bans it from front yards and anywhere visible from the street. In University Park’s Code of Ordinances as published in October 2026, we found no citywide rule naming artificial turf on homes; its mentions are site-specific approvals for school fields, playgrounds and a church. University Park does cap impermeable lot coverage, and the code does not say how turf counts, so ask Community Development before a front-yard install.

For a yard with dogs, K9 Guard Ultra is rated at 703.47 in/hr water permeability and carries Terashield anti-bacterial technology; we install it with a three-layer ZeoFill and Envirofill infill, and it carries a 15-year material warranty. Every line is listed with its specification on our turf range page.
