How to Choose

Start with how the lawn gets used

Weight, pile height and backing all matter, but in a different order depending on what the surface has to survive. Four common cases, and where each one lands.

If dogs use the yard

K9 Guard Ultra

Drainage and hygiene matter more here than face weight. K9 Guard Ultra measures 703.47 in/hr water permeability and carries Terashield anti-bacterial technology; on pet installs we add a three-layer ZeoFill and Envirofill infill.

Tour Master is texturized polyethylene at a 0.63 in pile, built for putting and multi-purpose use. Tour Master Pro is 100% nylon at 0.51 in, with a non-directional diamond blade for a smooth, consistent roll.

The two heavyweight lines. Estate 84 is the heaviest in the range at approximately 84 oz face weight on a two-inch pile; The Reserve runs 80 oz on a 1.75 in pile with dual-wave, no-glare yarns rated for moderate to heavy traffic.

The Numbers

What the numbers mean

Six figures do most of the work on a turf spec sheet. Our spec sheet guide goes deeper.

Face weight

The fiber alone, per square yard. It tells you how densely the pile is packed before the backing is counted, and it is the number that best predicts wear and how the lawn looks years in. Across this range it runs from 45 to approximately 84 oz.

Total weight

Fiber and backing together, 73 to 111 oz here. Useful for the structure of the finished roll, but not interchangeable with face weight: a light pile over a heavy backing can post a strong total. Ask for both.

Pile height

How tall the blade stands, set by the job rather than by quality. The lawn lines run 1.38 to about 2 in for a full look, K9 Guard Ultra 1.18 in, and the putting surfaces 0.51 to 0.63 in, because a ball has to roll across them.

Denier and dtex

The thickness of the yarn. Lawn and pet sheets list two figures, such as 10,900 / 4,000: the monofilament blade and the texturized thatch beneath it, in polyethylene and polypropylene.

Gauge and density

Gauge is the spacing between stitch rows: 3/8 in on the lawn and pet lines, a tighter 3/16 in on the putting surfaces. Stitch density counts the tufts in an area, which is why putting turf reads so much denser.

ASTM results

The standard tests behind the claims: F2765 for lead content, F1551 for water permeability, D2859 for flammability, and a xenon test for UV color fastness. Each line’s results are in its full specification.

Turf range questions

What is the difference between Tour Master and Tour Master Pro?

Tour Master is a texturized polyethylene putting and multi-purpose surface: 58 oz face weight, 85 oz total, a 16 mm (0.63 in) pile and a UV stability rating above 5,000 hours. Tour Master Pro is a 100% nylon putting surface: 45 oz face weight, 73 oz total, a shorter 0.51 in pile and a non-directional diamond blade, and it passes a Class A roof-deck fire test and ASTM E648. Both spec sheets are linked above.

Which of your turf lines is the heaviest?

Estate 84, at approximately 84 oz face weight and 111 oz total weight per square yard, on an approximately two-inch pile. The Reserve is next at 80 oz face weight and 107 oz total.

Is K9 Guard Ultra antibacterial?

Its spec sheet lists Terashield anti-bacterial technology and two ASTM E2149-25 lab results: 97.1% against ATCC 6538 (Staphylococcus aureus) and 90.1% against ATCC 25922 (E. coli). Those are a laboratory screen of the material, not a disinfectant claim, so rinsing and picking up after dogs still matter. It also measures 703.47 in/hr water permeability under ASTM F1551-09, the highest of the lawn and pet lines. On pet installs we add a three-layer ZeoFill and Envirofill infill.

Is your artificial turf lead-free?

Estate 84’s sheet states lead free and PFAS free. The other five lines are tested for lead content under ASTM F2765 and list less than 50 parts per million.
