Artificial turf in Preston Hollow
Heavyweight, UV-stabilized turf on an engineered base, built for Preston Hollow homeowners who are done with the watering calendar. Back-yard putting greens, lawns and pet turf, with Dallas’s watering rules and how its development code treats turf explained below.
Dallas’s watering rules, and why turf changes the math
Preston Hollow is inside the City of Dallas, so Dallas’s rules apply. Dallas limits lawn and landscape watering to twice a week, on days set by the last digit of the street address: addresses ending in an even number (or with no number) on Sundays and Thursdays, odd numbers on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Yards may not be watered between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on any day of the year, and the City Code requires every automatic irrigation system to have a working rain and freeze sensor. Violations can bring fines of $250 to $2,000 per incident, and first offenses are issued a warning. Dallas Water Utilities’ FAQ says hand watering and soaker hoses are permitted at any time.
Checked October 2026. Rules change with drought stages; the City of Dallas Water Conservation Ordinance (Dallas Water Utilities) page is the authority.
Zero water
With strict local ordinances and tiered water rates, artificial turf offers a zero-water solution. A typical 1,800-square-foot lawn can save approximately 99,000 gallons of water annually, potentially reducing water bills by 70%.
Built for the Texas sun
We exclusively install heavyweight (73–111 oz total weight) UV-stabilized turf designed to withstand the harsh Texas sun without fading or melting. Does turf get too hot in Texas?
Preston Hollow, and Dallas’s turf rule
Preston Hollow began as its own town, incorporated in 1939 around Preston Road and Northwest Highway, and in 1945 it voted to join the City of Dallas while the Park Cities stayed separate (Dallas Municipal Archives). That is why Dallas’s rules apply here, and Highland Park’s turf ordinance does not.
Development code
Turf can’t stand in for required trees
Dallas’s landscape article says artificial plant materials, including synthetic turf, may not be used to satisfy its requirements. On a single-family lot those requirements are trees: on lots of 7,500 square feet or more, at least three large or medium nursery-stock trees, two of them in the front yard. Turf goes around them, not instead of them.
Free check
A free irrigation evaluation
Dallas Water Utilities customers can get a free irrigation system evaluation from a licensed landscape irrigation specialist, covering programming errors, leaks, broken or misaligned equipment, pressure and coverage. Worth booking for the beds and trees that stay on the sprinklers.
Checked October 2026. Each card links to the page or code section it comes from; those are the authority if anything changes.
