Water

Coppell’s watering rules, and why turf changes the math

Coppell buys its treated water from Dallas Water Utilities. Coppell limits sprinkler watering to two days a week by the last digit of the address: even-numbered homes on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered homes on Wednesdays and Sundays, and businesses on Fridays and Mondays. Automatic and hose-end sprinklers are not allowed between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The schedule is mandatory from May 1 to September 30 and voluntary from October 1 to April 30, and the city can grant permits for new lawns or landscaping depending on the water situation. Since 2025, citations can carry a fine of up to $2,000. Watering by hand, with drip irrigation or with soaker hoses is allowed on any day, at all times.

Checked October 2026. Rules change with drought stages; the Coppell Water Conservation Plan page is the authority.

Zero water

With strict local ordinances and tiered water rates, artificial turf offers a zero-water solution. A typical 1,800-square-foot lawn can save approximately 99,000 gallons of water annually, potentially reducing water bills by 70%.

Built for the Texas sun

We exclusively install heavyweight (73–111 oz total weight) UV-stabilized turf designed to withstand the harsh Texas sun without fading or melting. Does turf get too hot in Texas?

City rules

Coppell and artificial turf

Coppell’s Code of Ordinances, as published in October 2026, does not mention artificial turf, and its landscape regulations exempt single-family detached homes. Two city programs are still worth knowing before an install.

Landscape code

Homes are exempt

Coppell’s landscape regulations apply to new construction in the city, except that single-family detached dwellings are exempt.

Irrigation

Sprinkler changes need a permit

A permit is required to install a new irrigation system or to alter the tap or backflow device on an existing one: permit type Plumbing (Residential), work class Irrigation.

Free check

A free sprinkler evaluation

Residents with a Coppell water account and an in-ground sprinkler system can request a free evaluation, with a report of suggested repairs and controller settings. Worth doing for the beds and grass that stay.

Checked October 2026. Each card links to the page or code section it comes from; those are the authority if anything changes.

Coppell’s Code of Ordinances, as published in October 2026, has no artificial turf rule, and its landscape regulations exempt single-family detached homes. If the project installs a new irrigation system or alters the tap or backflow device on an existing one, the city requires a residential plumbing permit, work class irrigation. HOA deed restrictions are separate from city rules; our Texas HOA guide covers those.

For a children’s play area we use high face-weight turf with shock-absorbing underlays and safety infills for impact protection. Every line is listed with its specification on our turf range page.
