A lawn turf and a putting turf are built to opposite briefs. A lawn wants a tall, soft pile that looks like grass; a green wants a short, dense surface a ball can roll across without wobbling. We install two putting surfaces, Tour Master and Tour Master Pro, and they differ in fiber. This is what they share, where they differ, and how to choose.
What both share
Tour Master runs a 0.63 in pile in texturized polyethylene; Tour Master Pro runs a shorter 0.51 in pile in 100% nylon, with a non-directional diamond blade. That is the whole point of a putting turf: on a directional pile the ball breaks with the grain and the green plays differently uphill and down. Tour Master is rated for putting and multi-functional use; Tour Master Pro for moderate to heavy traffic.
Tour Master (Poly)
A texturized polyethylene fiber at 58 oz face weight and 85 oz total weight, on a 16 mm (0.63 in) pile. The texture is what gives the grain-neutral roll. It takes a round infill of 0.315 to 0.8 mm at 12 kg per square metre, and the infill depth is one of the ways the speed of the green is set: it is the specific silica sand for controlled ball-roll speed that our services page describes.
Tour Master Pro (Nylon)
100% nylon (polyamide) at a 0.51 in pile and 45 oz face weight, with a non-directional diamond blade, an extremely high melting point, and a 15-year material warranty. Nylon is the fiber used where the surface has to hold its speed under heavy, repeated use.
How to choose
Tell us how the green will be used. A practice green that takes daily chipping and a family that wants to putt on weekends are different briefs, and the fiber, the infill rate and the contour all follow from that.
